I spent some time this week in Sicily and had the chance to go diving.

What stood out was how different everything looks beneath the surface.
From above, the water appears calm and straightforward, but once you’re below, there’s far more complexity and detail than you’d expect.

It’s a useful reminder of how financial planning often works.

At a surface level, many individuals appear well-positioned strong earnings, valuable assets, and clear objectives.

But when you look deeper, there are often opportunities to improve:
• Tax efficiency
• Inheritance planning
• Succession structures
• Long-term wealth protection

The real value comes from understanding what sits beneath the surface and putting the right procedures in place whether that’s through effective use of trusts, well-drafted wills, or broader wealth planning strategies.

Clarity comes from looking deeper.

See the umbrellas and think this is a insurance post…. You are wrong.

I just so happened to take this picture when I was in London meeting a prospective client. NHS doctor who runs his own private practice. Referred by a NHS doctor who again runs their own practice.

After years in the NHS, he had also built a highly successful private practice but his main concern wasn’t growth.( he had made this YONKs ago)

It was succession!

How do you pass a business like that on to your children efficiently?

After understanding his goals, we’re now implementing a structure that will:
• Enable a tax-efficient transfer to the next generation
• Remove any potential inheritance tax exposure
• Maintain flexibility if he decides to sell in the future

(Guess umbrellas could serve the purpose for protecting the family wealth, just a coincidence...)

I took a short break recently and headed to Poland for a quick getaway.

A bit of (poor) food, great fresh air, and something I hadn’t done before and go shooting at a range.

There’s something interesting about shooting that mirrors good estate planning.

You can’t just turn up, aim vaguely in the right direction, and expect consistent results.

You need:

• Focus

• Preparation

• The right tools

• A clear target

Without those things, you miss more often than you hit.
Financial and estate planning isn’t that different.

Many families build significant wealth over their lifetime, but without proper planning around inheritance tax, wills structure, the final outcome can be very different from what was intended.

Good planning simply means taking aim early and being deliberate about the result you want.

A good reminder that sometimes stepping away for a few days gives you a clearer perspective on the bigger picture.

A strong start to 2026 for Tardi Group.
