The life of the self employed. It’s raining out there and it’s a Monday do a great chance to catch up on some of the work I didn’t finish before I left the uk, before heading to Patagonia.

Seems that I'm really bad at keeping up to date with my social media! 🙄 I have been keeping busy though and have had two applications approved in the last couple of weeks, one in Lambeth and one in Southwark both creating new dwellings, which I'm really pleased with as they took ages to go through the process (https://julietheap.co.uk/news/23-oct-18/success-grange-road-london-se1 and https://julietheap.co.uk/news/16-oct-18/planning-approval-new-dwellings-lambeth) and I've got myself a new office / desk in Build Studios on Westminster Bridge Road, which I'm really liking. Perhaps a resolution for next year is to keep on top of social media / marketing?!

Woohoo another successful decision. Great news for a Tuesday afternoon

Exciting news this afternoon that Southwark Council has approved our application for a certificate of lawful existing use for a residential dwelling in Borough, SE1. Wow, talk about controversial changes to the planning system. Will it make things more streamlined? We'll see! (call me a cynic even on a beautiful sunny Friday afternoon!) http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-33472405

Automatic planning permission would be granted on many brownfield sites in England in an attempt to boost economic productivity, under government plans.

There certainly seems to be some differing opinions about the provision of affordable housing for small sites, following Planning Minister, Brandon Lewis’s announcement in November 2014 via a written ministerial statement that stated for developments of 10 homes or fewer, affordable housing and tariff style contributions through s. 106 obligations should not be sought. In designated rural areas, the threshold was set at five homes or fewer.

The changes were introduced via a subsequent update to the National Planning Policy Guidance.

Many local authorities have already stopped seeking affordable provision for such schemes, however two authorities have joined together to launch judicial review proceedings over the Government’s changes to the use of Section 106 agreements, whereas the London Borough of Islington and other authorities are sticking by their policy to require an affordable housing contribution for small sites.

Watch this space. It’s going to be an interesting few months to see how this develops!

Apparently today's blue Monday. Well the sun's shining and today has brought a new instruction all's shiny in the planning world today.
