Major changes to immigration law, particularly to how one qualifies for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK 🇬🇧 are highly likely to come into effect very soon. Government consultation ends on the 12 February 2026.

We are waiting for the official announcement to advise you further.

The proposal is such that Settlement will no longer be granted automatically after a fixed period. Instead, migrants will need to earn it by demonstrating sustained good conduct, contribution and integration.

From 25 February 2026, visa-free nationals must apply for Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before traveling to the UK.

ETA is not a visa, but it is mandatory for short visits such as tourism, business or family visits.

✅you must apply before you travel
✅approval is digitally linked to your passport
✅airlines can refuse boarding if you don’t have one
✅having an ETA does not guarantee entry and checks at the border still apply

Apply in advance to avoid last minute stress.

✅ Lawyer’s Tip: The timing of your application should be carefully planned around your professional achievements and immigration goals. It is best to apply when you have recent, high-impact evidence of recognition in your field, but factor in specific assessment criteria of endorsing bodies – evidence that falls outside of their assessment window will not qualify.
When you get an endorsement, you must submit a Stage 2 Visa application within 3 months of receiving the endorsement letter.

☑️ HIGH POTENTIAL INDIVIDUAL VISA
For graduates from eligible international universities to work in the UK for up to 3 years. No company sponsorship is required but you must be able to demonstrate you can financially support yourself.

☑️ SKILLED WORKER VISA
