The legal profession is sustaining from a tight-lipped pestilence, its members prowled by assassins who have ceased being afraid of the Rule of Law. The specter of death has entered the very chambers of our legal society, sabotaging the one's upholding the "Rule of Law" by filing credible PIL's.
We need to look at the forest and find out why the lives of lawyers who are considered to be the protectors of "Law" are being snuffed out so easily and so cheaply. Let it be due to a personal rivalry or a political conspiracy, no lawyer must ever fear or get stressed to attend a hearing. Therefore, CBI inquiry is a must in such cases.
We need to do both (and much more) not just out of self-preservation, but to prove that in our country, the law still prevails. Because there is no clearer indicator of the degradation of the Rule of Law than seeing its advocates battling for the upliftment and justice to the tyrannized population being killed unlawfully. If the offshoots of a powerful profession can be chopped down to death in broad daylight with impunity, despite seeking protection whilst being threatened continuously by the miscreants, where does that leave the less fortunate?
And if the profession is unable to move other institutions to curb an epidemic of massacres ambushing its members, then how frantic will other citizens feel? And as the pattern unravels, how many citizens will still see the law as an effective solution to disputes?
Hence, the concerns raised in the letter submitted on an immediate basis after the gruesome incident on 17th February 2021 by the venerable Adv. K. AijazUddin on behalf of advocates fraternity to the Chief Justice of Telangana. This letter was also highlighted in the Live law updates article the very same day and must be contemplated and treated as a prime preeminence.
