New contract added to the Music Law Contracts website.

The Deal Finder contract can be used when someone such as a lawyer, studio owner, manager, producer or established writer, wants to find a deal for an artist but does not want to be involved at any level.

The 'Finder' may also not wish to become involved in the artist's career longer term as a manager but might be able to spot an opportunity to use their contacts to further the artist's career.

This is a short document where the artist appoints someone non-exclusively and for short period to help find a record, publishing or synchronisation deal. In exchange for finding a deal the Finder will receive a percentage cut from any advance and royalties monies received by artist in respect to such deal the Finder helped procure.

Also known as Finder's Agreement these contracts can be used when someone such as a lawyer, studio owner, manager, producer or established writer, wants to find a deal for an artist but does not want to be involved at any level.

Collaboration Agreement: Contract to regulate an arrangement whereby a Producer and a Vocalist collaborate in the song-writing, performance and production of a Recording and a Composition.

We had two artist come to us with the BMU contract. Our advice was not too sign it and to refrain from any attempt to negotiate it further.

The Tour Agreement is intended for use in circumstances where a company wishes to enter into an arrangement with a concert promoter for a series of concerts forming part of a tour. The agreement is drafted from the point of view of the Company on the assumption that the Company was set up or is owned or controlled by the artists whose performance the promoter is contracting.

This is a very detailed 13 page contract including all the relevant clause provisions pertaining to touring, such as:

- Promoter and Artist undertakings;
- Expenses, taxes and payments;
- Box office and complimentary tickets;
- Control over production;
- Recording and photography at the event;
- Sponsorship and Merchandise;
- Security and Insurance;
- Venue technical and artist requirements.

New contract template added to Music Law Contracts.

In an Administration Deal, the publisher does not acquire ownership of the copyrights. It is granted an exclusive license for the territory, authorising it to be the only party to administer, exploit and collect on the writer’s behalf.

These deals are usually only available to established writers who have an attractive catalogue that is already generating income. In an administration deal, the publisher will provide: the administration necessary to register the song; grant licenses; collect, account for and distribute the income.
