The agency convened what it called an expert panel on talc on May 20, led by FDA Commissioner Martin Makary, MD, MPH, and Principal Deputy Commissioner Sara Brenner, MD, MPH. The 2-hour meeting was livestreamed.

British military personnel are joining a legal action demanding compensation for loss of hearing from the American industrial giant 3M, a provider of combat earplugs.

It is estimated that tens of thousands of people who served in the British Army, the Royal Marines, the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and special forces could join the claim.

Adam Stone, 44, a former Royal Marine who served with units including 40 Commando in Iraq, has joined the action, having used the 3M earplugs. The father of two from Yeovil in Somerset who now works in the offshore industry says he now requires a hearing aid and suffers from tinnitus. "When I left the Corps in 2012 I saw a doctor who, after extensive hearing tests, prescribed me with a hearing aid for my left ear.
