With the growing popularity of the digital within construction projects, how will this change the supply chain?

When contractors and other supply chain partners digitalise their processes…

It leads to three major changes.

The supply chain will become more transparent in the long term.

“Digitalisation leads to construction companies more easily exchanging data. This means that transparency increases.”

Secondly, more ICT companies will become dominant within the sector.

“Construction companies become more dependent on information and communications technology (ICT) service providers from which they purchase software and other IT services.”

Thirdly, more in-house architects.

“A designer has to know exactly what the industrialised construction company can and cannot process.”

“Design will therefore more often be done in-house at the construction firm instead of at an independent architecture firm, as that is where the knowledge of the standardised industrial building options are known.”

The implementation of more digital measures could see the number of disputes relating to these processes rising.

What do you think about the growing popularity of digital in the construction sector?

Do you learn best through doing?

How about learning through a video game?

Created to educate those within the construction industry on new weather-based insurance policies, a new game is being tested for its effectiveness.

The game “seeks to show how such policies can help stakeholders better manage risks related to weather.”

As well as “settling claims faster and overcoming some of the limitations” associated with traditional insurance policies.

What do you think?

Could learning in this way be beneficial to keep up with modern policies and regulations?

The supply chain risk management experts CHAS have highlighted ten pressing issues that could affect construction supply chains this year.

Besides the pandemic, delays, and supply shortages…

The Building Safety Bill is set to change how certain buildings are built, maintained, and made safe.

Anyone involved in the design, construction, and management of higher-risk buildings will be affected.

The Environment Bill paves the way for further laws and guidelines on air pollution, biodiversity, water quality, and waste.

Firms will need to review how they currently monitor and manage environmental processes.

Are you prepared for the changes this year will bring?

With supply chain delays taking their toll on the construction industry, could its workers be next?

Construction employees have joined the great resignation.

The principal reason for employees leaving was to secure long-term flexible working.

“Almost three quarters of business owners (74%) in the architecture, engineering and construction sector explained that their employees place more value on work/life balance now than before the pandemic.”

“61% acknowledge that they need to do more to stand out and attract new recruits.”

Does this present an urgent need for employers to adapt and provide more support for their employees?

The outlook for the construction sector appears to be on the up but it has been a tricky couple of years.

What do you think is needed to retain construction workers and attract new talent?
