⚖️ HR News | Parental Leave & Workplace Equality

A former Goldman Sachs senior compliance officer has been awarded £1.45 million following a successful claim for s*x discrimination and unfair dismissal after being dismissed while on parental leave.

The case serves as an important reminder for employers that parental leave policies must be applied fairly and consistently, regardless of gender, and highlights the significant consequences employment decisions can have on an individual’s long-term career.

🏏 Celebrating a Successful Season at Wanstead Cricket Club

As the cricket season draws to a close, we’re delighted to celebrate another fantastic season for Wanstead Cricket Club.

August has already brought plenty to be proud of, including the success of many British Insurance Brokers’ Cricket Club (BICC) fixtures, a real highlight in the club’s calendar.

The club’s junior section has also enjoyed an exceptional season, with boys’ and girls’ teams winning championships and reaching national competitions. Off the pitch, the club continues to grow and expand, now giving more than 1,000 young people the opportunity to play cricket.

Bradley & Co is proud to support Wanstead Cricket Club through the Branding Campaign, helping to ensure financial barriers don’t prevent young people from getting involved in the sport.

A huge congratulations to everyone at Wanstead Cricket Club on another brilliant season, and the very best of luck for the remaining fixtures! 👏

What’s inside The Bradley Box? 🌱

Almost a year on, The Bradley Box is still going strong, and we’re pleased to say it’s become a firm favourite with our team.

Every new colleague joining Bradley & Co receives their own box, filled with a carefully selected collection of useful and sustainably sourced items. But there’s a little more thought behind each one than you might realise.

Inside you’ll find a reusable Bradley & Co water bottle, bamboo tote, Swole Panda bamboo socks, Fortnum & Mason Breakfast Blend tea and a small plant.

Founder Paul Bradley explains the thinking behind the choices:

“We wanted the box to feel genuinely useful, while also representing what matters to us. The reusable bottle is a reminder of wellbeing and making better everyday choices; the bamboo items reflect our focus on sustainability; and the tea is about something simple but important, taking a moment, having a conversation and making people feel welcome.”

As members of the SME Climate Hub, with a commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050, sustainability continues to influence the choices we make as a business.

Nearly a year later, it’s great to see such a simple idea become a valued part of the Bradley & Co welcome.

Employee of the Month – Saludeen Sesay 🏆

Congratulations to Saludeen Sesay, who was presented with our Employee of the Month award by our Manager at one of our prestigious sites in Mayfair.

Saludeen went above and beyond during recent travel disruptions, taking extra care to ensure a vulnerable tenant was able to make their way home safely.

A fantastic example of the care, professionalism and commitment we’re proud to see across our team. Well done, Saludeen!

This week, we put the following questions to Glen Herron, Director of Business Partnerships 🗣

🎤What's the biggest change you've seen in client expectations over the last five years, and how has Bradley & Co evolved to stay ahead?

"Client expectations have changed significantly. Businesses now expect workplace services to be proactive, flexible and tailored to their individual needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

At Bradley & Co, we've stayed ahead by building strong relationships with our clients, investing in our people and remaining agile. By understanding each client's business and adapting as their needs evolve, we're able to deliver workplace solutions that provide real value and long-term support."

🎤What opportunities do you see for businesses that invest in exceptional workplace services rather than viewing them as a cost?

"Exceptional workplace services should be seen as an investment, not an expense. A well-managed workplace has a direct impact on employee wellbeing, productivity and staff retention, while also creating a positive first impression for clients, visitors and prospective employees.

Businesses that prioritise workplace experience often benefit from stronger engagement, a more positive culture and an enhanced reputation, all of which contribute to long-term success."

🎤If you could give one piece of advice to organisations looking to improve workplace experience, what would it be?

"Listen to the people who experience your workplace every day. Employees, clients and visitors all provide valuable insight into what's working well and where improvements can be made.

Creating an outstanding workplace isn't about making assumptions; it's about understanding people's needs and continuously adapting to meet them. Organisations that genuinely listen are better placed to build environments that are welcoming, efficient and support long-term business success."

It's always a pleasure to support the local communities and partnerships that mean so much to us.

Yesterday, some of our team had the opportunity to attend the fantastic fixture between Wanstead Cricket Club and the Lord's Cricket Ground, where they met the Club President and enjoyed an afternoon watching some excellent cricket.

As proud sponsors of Wanstead Cricket Club, it was a great opportunity for some of our newer colleagues to learn more about the club, the valued partnership we've built together, and the important role local sport plays in bringing communities together.

A huge thank you to everyone at Wanstead Cricket Club for the warm welcome and hospitality. We're proud to support such a fantastic club and look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come. 🏏

World Breastfeeding Week: Creating a More Supportive Return to Work 🤱

As we mark World Breastfeeding Week, it's a timely reminder that supporting working parents doesn't end when maternity leave does.

For many employees, returning to work while continuing to breastfeed can feel daunting. Simple, practical measures can make a significant difference, not only to an employee's wellbeing but also to their confidence, engagement and long-term retention.

Employers can support breastfeeding employees by:

✅ Encouraging early conversations before an employee returns from maternity leave.
✅Considering flexible working arrangements where possible.
✅Providing a clean, private space for expressing milk (rather than a toilet).
✅Allowing reasonable breaks where needed.
✅Ensuring managers understand how to support returning parents with empathy and consistency.

Creating a family-friendly workplace isn't just about meeting legal responsibilities; it's about building an inclusive culture where employees feel supported through every stage of their career.

At Bradley & Co, we believe thoughtful HR practices help businesses attract and retain talented people while creating workplaces where everyone can perform at their best.

What initiatives has your organisation introduced to better support employees returning from parental leave?

Is your employee handbook keeping pace with the workplace?📖

An employee handbook shouldn't be a document that's written once and forgotten. As employment law continues to evolve, it should be reviewed regularly to ensure it reflects current legislation, workplace practices and your organisation's values.

With the phased introduction of the **Employment Rights Act 2025**, employers are seeing changes to areas including family-friendly rights, workplace harassment responsibilities and flexible working, with further reforms due throughout 2026 and 2027.

A clear, up-to-date handbook not only helps businesses stay compliant but also gives employees confidence, consistency and clarity about what's expected of them.

When was the last time your employee handbook was reviewed?

If it's been a while, now could be the perfect opportunity to ensure your policies are fit for the future.

If you're unsure whether your policies reflect current legislation and best practice, the Bradley & Co HR team is here to help. Get in touch to discuss how we can support your business.
