Although we know that children can be vulnerable to harm by adults, there is also growing research into children displaying harmful behaviours towards parents/caregivers. There is no agreed definition for this type of harm or abuse, making it difficult to identify and talk about. In the absence of an agreed definition, various terms and descriptions are used.

The Tackling Domestic Abuse Plan committed to developing a sector agreed definition and updating the guidance for frontline professionals in line with it. For the purposes of this consultation document, the Home Office is using the term child to parent abuse (CPA) until terminology has been agreed.

Child protection experts have called for an urgent nationwide hunt for thousands of new foster carers after a net loss of 1,000 families in the past year and a record number of children being placed far from home.

Social workers have described scrambling to find friends and family to take children in urgent need of safety, and reported that children are sometimes placed in hotels.

Unmarried but living together?

A cohabitation agreement is a legal document between unmarried couples who are living together or about to move in together. It outlines what will happen to things like the finances, the property, and children should you decide to separate.

It’s important to know what can be included in a cohabitation agreement as well as your legal rights to decide whether a cohabitation agreement is right for you.

New research has exposed fostering myths fuelling a crisis in Bristol. The well-being of vulnerable children is at stake due to a growing deficit in foster carers, says independent foster agency Swiis Foster Care, which has its head office in the city.

They say new research has revealed the depth of misunderstanding in the city, and shed light on findings that could help attract more foster carers into the sector.

Research shows that a combination of nervousness and lack of understanding around eligibility are stopping potential foster carers from considering fostering as a career.

The latest Women and Retirement report, part of the National Retirement Forecast from Scottish Widows, reveals a “motherhood penalty” that will affect three-quarters of single mothers.

Almost half (46%) have had to reduce their hours to manage childcare or make a permanent move to part-time work at age 30, which costs them £47,000 out of their pension pot.

Not discussing pension assets during divorce means 83% of women lose out materially, according to Scottish Widows. This could cost them £77,000 in retirement, it estimates.

"People don't often respond to young dads by saying 'congratulations, you're a young dad'. They say 'how did that happen?'"

When Kev Stoodley set up a charity to help dads under 25 in 2017, he did it because he felt all the support out there was aimed at mums.

Even now there are no official stats to tell us how many young men become fathers, but what's clear for Kev is how difficult it can be for the ones who do.

One of the biggest obstacles, Kev says, is the stereotypes they face.

They're often seen as "dangerous, feckless and disinterested", but one charity's trying to change that.
