Paralegal, Internship & Work Experience Placements
For Ambitious LLB Graduates & Law Students

BW Solicitors is a trusted and expanding law firm, currently growing its presence across Essex and East Anglia. We are a Clio-powered, fully paperless practice offering hands-on, real-world experience across Immigration & Asylum, Family & Children, Wills & Probate, Landlord & Tenant, Civil Disputes, Money Claims, Criminal Defence/Motoring Offences, Business Contract Reviews, and legal services for small and medium businesses (SMEs).

We are looking for the best of the best — talented, focused, and driven LLB graduates and law students from the University of Essex, Anglia Ruskin University, University of East Anglia, and beyond, for paralegal, internship, placement, and work experience opportunities.

What We Offer

• Genuine hands-on experience across live cases, not just admin support
• Direct supervision and mentoring from experienced solicitors
• Paperless working with a Clio-based case management system, CRM, and mobile app
• A genuine pathway to a paralegal or training role for standout candidates
• A friendly, supportive, and ambitious firm actively expanding its regional footprint

Opportunities Available

• Paralegal positions
• Internships
• Structured placements
• Work experience (short and extended)

About You

• LLB graduate or current law student (or equivalent) at University of Essex, Anglia Ruskin University, University of East Anglia, or another recognised institution
• Genuinely driven, focused, and eager to build a career in legal practice
• An interest in Immigration & Asylum, Family, Wills & Probate, Landlord & Tenant, Civil Disputes, Money Claims, Criminal Defence, or Business/SME legal work is an advantage
Skills Required
• Excellent communication skills — the role may involve telephone calls and correspondence with existing and prospective clients
• Brilliant drafting skills and strong attention to detail
• Strong written and spoken English
• Good research and analytical skills
• Well organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• Confident using IT systems and case management software (training provided on Clio)
• Professional, client-focused manner and a strong sense of confidentiality

A blast from the past - A very important read to jog your memory:

Social media and sur place evidence in the Asylum matters

Guidelines consider how courts and tribunals should weigh social media in the balance alongside other evidence

30/06/2026

The Immigration and Asylum Bill 2026 was introduced in the Commons on 30 June. A few headline changes practitioners should be tracking:

🏛️ A new tribunal — the "Independent Immigration Appeals Authority" — replaces the First-tier Tribunal for protection, human rights, bail and deprivation-of-citizenship appeals.

⚖️ Article 8 ECHR gets a statutory redefinition. "Family life" is narrowed to a "core cohabiting family" — financial dependency or emotional ties between adults will no longer be enough on their own.

📋 "Claim notices" replace priority removal notices, requiring claimants to front-load all grounds and evidence — with credibility consequences for late submission.

🔑 A sweeping one-year delegated power lets the Home Secretary redefine "protection status" and asylum claims by regulation.

🛡️ Modern slavery provisions are tightened too: risk orders on acquittal, electronic monitoring, and a new credibility regime for trafficking claims mirroring the asylum claim-notice approach.

This is a significant structural shift — not just a tightening of rules, but a redesign of who decides immigration appeals and how. Worth watching closely as it moves through Parliament.
