🏠 ACCOMMODATION REQUIREMENTS FOR UK IMMIGRATION APPLICATIONS
One of the most overlooked — yet critical — parts of a successful UK visa or settlement application is providing adequate evidence of accommodation.
Whether you are applying for a Skilled Worker visa, Family visa, or Indefinite Leave to Remain, the Home Office will assess whether you have suitable housing in place.
📋 WHAT THE HOME OFFICE LOOKS FOR
✅ Adequate size — the property must not be overcrowded under the Housing Act 1985
✅ Exclusive use — you must have your own room or living space
✅ Legal occupation — you must have a legal right to live there (owned, rented, or staying with family/friends)
✅ No statutory overcrowding — the number of occupants must not exceed legal limits
📄 DOCUMENTS YOU MAY NEED
• If you own the property: Land Registry title deed or mortgage statement
• If you are renting: Tenancy agreement in your name (valid and current)
• If staying with family/friends: A letter of permission from the homeowner/tenant, plus their proof of ownership or tenancy
• Utility bills or council tax documents confirming the address
⚠️ COMMON MISTAKES WE SEE
❌ Submitting an expired tenancy agreement
❌ The accommodation is in someone else's name with no supporting letter
❌ Overcrowding issues — too many people at the address
❌ Using a property that is not legally occupied
At BW Solicitors, we review every aspect of your application — including accommodation evidence — before submission, to give you the strongest possible case.
