Your account can freeze for 6 to 8 months. That's the average time it takes to get a Court of Protection deputy appointed if a business owner loses capacity with no Business LPA in place. For a sole trader, that's often enough to finish the business completely.

A Business LPA means someone you choose steps in immediately (no court, no wait). New from 26 August.

Your business account can freeze for 8 months. Almost nobody sees it coming.

If you're a sole trader, a partner, or the only director of your company, and something happens to you (a stroke, an accident, even a few weeks in hospital), the bank can freeze the business account. Staff can't be paid. Suppliers can't be paid. Without the right document in place, the only route left is the Court of Protection: 6 to 8 months, on average.

Who gets your dog if you don't come home?

Most people never think to name a guardian in their Will. Legally, a pet is just "property" — so there's no automatic next of kin for a dog or a cat.

A Letter of Wishes names their person. And you can even leave money in your Will to cover their food, vet bills and insurance, so whoever takes them isn't out of pocket.

It's one extra line in a conversation I'm already having with you.
