🌳🌳Tree stump removal🌳🌳
Tree stump removal f.a.q’s…….
Q- What an odd looking machine, what does it do 🤷🏽♂️ ??…….
A- The stump grinder has a spinning wheel with large tungsten carbide teeth that shreds the stump in to a mix of shavings and sawdust known as mulch or chip. The cutting wheel is brought up to speed and swept side to side, inching forwards with each pass. The wheel is lowered gradually in to the ground with each sweep until the stump is fully removed, allowing for a top dressing of soil then seed or re planting the site with a shiny new tree etc. 🌳
Q- Can it go up and down stairs 🪜 ?? ……
A- Yes, with the aid of ramps. We keep several different sizes of ramp for tackling various obstacles that may also include raised beds, ditches, split level gardens. We also keep a heavy duty raised landing deck to create a landing on steep banks or a large change in height over a short distance.
Q- Will it fit through my gate 🚪 ??…..
A- It depends on the gate width; most garden gates will usually be wide enough for the machine to pass through. The grinder is 730mm wide (73cm or 28.74 inches in old money), sometimes it might involve unscrewing the gate to squeeze the machine though and re attach the gate once complete or removing a section of fence; whichever is the easiest and least damaging approach.
Q- Will the tracks make a mess of my grass 🪴 ??….
A- Absolutely not; we use heavy duty ground mats to protect grassy areas. Respect for property and cleanliness is paramount. If the stump is in an area surrounded by grass, we will not leave a single track mark visible on the grass or throughout the access route. Flexible wrap around debris screens are used to contain the mulch and localise debris to further protect surrounding areas.
Q- Can it do a wheelie or grind up a house 🏡 ?….
A- No. As awesome as that sounds, it’s designed to grind and shred natural wood material in the ground with a high resistance to soil and stones due to the tungsten carbide teeth. It does however have a nice engine sound and can turn on the spot as if it’s doing a donut 🍩.
Q- Why is it in a box trailer??….
A- The layout of the box trailer has been specifically designed around the grinder and carries all the equipment needed to safely and cleanly remove a stump along with removing waste if required.
It carries specialist ground scanning equipment, tools and spares for the machine, ramps, hand tools, debris screens, two metal detectors, ppe, cordoning equipment, ground mats, chainsaw, mulch bags and cleaning equipment all within one portable box. For much larger quantities of mulch, we have a separate cage sided tipping trailer for loose mulch or various sized plant trailers for bagged mulch that have drop down ramps for ease of access.
Q- How much does it cost 💰 ??….
A- It varies depending on size/ species/ location. Each job has different measurable variables although it works out to be cheaper and significantly less damaging than alternative methods. The alternative methods may include a digger with ripper (good for multiple stumps in an area to be landscaped with a method of easy disposal) or hand digging/ winching (very labour intensive, messy, potentially difficult to dispose/ may involve crane hire if access is limited) Both of which can be damaging to the surrounding area of the stump with a whole stump still in one piece to dispose of once it’s out of the ground. Each job is priced individually with no obligation and can be priced remotely with a few bits of information.
These are just a few of the questions I’ve been asked; if there are any other questions, feel free to ask away.
There’s no such thing as a silly question……….. 👀👀
