This week our clients, Northern Ireland Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice attended a further meeting with the First and Deputy Minister. The focus of the discussion was implementation of the UK Covid Inquiry’s recommendations and the bereaved families unanswered request for a local inquiry to fill the gaps left by the wider UK Inquiry.

Director, Enda McGarrity made the following statement:

“While some progress has been made, much work remains to be done. The Inquiry’s scathing Module 2C report found that government decision making during the pandemic was influenced by party politics which, in turn, affected public safety. The recommendations made to address these issues demand urgent attention and greater ambition than what we have seen so far.

Our clients are also concerned that previous commitments to establish a local inquiry remain unfulfilled. Our clients put forward the case that a short investigation narrowly focused on health and social care in particular, and hearing evidence from the bereaved and those with direct on the ground experience of Covid in care homes and hospitals, would be required. This approach has been adopted in Scotland and may soon be adopted in Wales which would leave Northern Ireland as an outlier.”

P.A. Duffy & Co Solicitors Lace Up for Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke!

P.A. Duffy & Co Solicitors is proud to have five teams from across our offices taking part in this year's Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon Relay, united in raising £5,000 for Northern Ireland Chest Heart And Stroke!

This cause is deeply personal to us. In February 2024, our Chairman, Feargal Logan, suffered a serious stroke without the typical warning signs. Thanks to the incredible care and support from NICHS, he has made a strong recovery. Their work makes a real difference to individuals and families across Northern Ireland, and we are proud to support them.

If you are able to donate, even a small contribution will make a real difference. Every pound goes directly to NICHS, helping them continue their vital work supporting individuals and families across Northern Ireland.
