Registering a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

An LPA can be registered at any time after it has been created.

Before registration:
✅ Anyone you've named to be notified must be informed
✅ The Public Guardian will notify both you (the donor) and your attorneys
✅ Relatives are not notified unless you've specifically listed them

Key points to know:

- Anyone notified has the right to object
- Once registered, an LPA continues indefinitely
- Attorneys can register it even after you've lost capacity

There are two types of LPA you can set up:

🔹 Property and Financial Affairs LPA
Appoint someone to manage your money, property, and financial matters.

🔹 Health and Personal Welfare LPA
Choose a trusted person to make decisions about your healthcare and wellbeing. This can include consenting to or refusing treatment, and deciding where you live.

Important to know:
✅ An LPA only takes effect once it is registered
✅ You can decide whether it comes into force immediately or only if you lose capacity
