When working on documents for clients, I am often asked to format a document where a clause/paragraph number, heading title and text where they are all on the same line, but only the number and heading title to be placed in a ToC. When populating the ToC, the ToC does not recognise that the text/narrative of the paragraph is not to appear within in. To ensure the text/narrative is not within the ToC, the often forgotten "style separator" is used. The Style Separator can be added to the Toolbar from the File/Options/Quick Access Toolbar if it is to be used often. Alternatively, another quick way is place the cursor at the end of the number/heading title for the ToC and use the search feature and ask "insert a style separator" and choose "style separator". One is inserted at the cursor point. Click on save and update ToC and voila the ToC only has the number and heading from that line.
