I have a question...
So I have a question…
Over the past few months I have been pondering something and need your help…
Ever since I started my Good Deed Diary I vowed to help other people. Fast forward 2 years - and I have witnessed and experienced so much kindness that it can almost take your breath away; so many people wanting to help others out - simply because they can.
I have been too and helped out so many wonderful charities. Helped promote their inspirational and life changing causes - hoping that people will stand up and take notice of the incredible work they do.
But it’s always got me thinking….
I started my Good Deed Diary based on the little things - those small gestures that can go on to brighten somebodies day. It’s ironic really that no matter how big my page gets, how much charity work is done and how many national newspaper spreads there are - in the end, it comes down to that one cup of coffee you buy for a stranger. That’s where the true power lies, in the gesture. The simple act of kindness.
Where I am going with this is…?
After seeing so many people helped through charities, it’s always made me wonder about those that don’t get help or even thanked. That faithful volunteer who gives up every single Friday to tend to cancer patients, that mother who gives up her afternoons to be a lollypop lady because the paid one is on holiday. That brother who cares for his sibling despite his disability. It’s these unsung heroes, the ones that don’t fall into a ‘charity’ category that go un-noticed and even more importantly, un-thanked.
So I guess what I want to ask is would you donate money to an charity that specifically thanked those people with a small gift? Those un-sung heroes…
Would you donate money for a bunch of flowers to be sent to the mother?
Would you donate money for 2 cinema tickets for the brother and his other half?
And would you donate money for a meal out for that faithful volunteer who has helped so many lives?
What I am asking is would you give money to a non-cause cause. A special cause for those people who deserve to be thanked but don’t fall into a traditional charity category. They may not have a disability, or an illness, they may not have suffered a life changing trauma, but they have gone out of their way to make a difference to the lives of people in their community.
Would you help me pay it forward to those thousands of people I hear about every week - who just deserved to be thanked?
I always hear the statement - “charity starts at home”. So why not start by thinking those people who make our homes and communities a better place…
Are you in?
