Sending out some Xmas pressies to clients today.

An upcycled plastic lightbulb (which used to live on solar lights in my back garden) filled with paper scrolls containing Xmas quotes, facts, activities and jokes. All hand-made by my clever wife: Loopy Loo's Handmade!

Yesterday, I delivered a module of Institute of Translation and Interpreting's Starting Up as a Freelance Translator course for new translation professionals for the tenth & last time.

It's been a privilege to share my passion for online engagement and marketing, and highly rewarding to see students put it into practice and embark on a successful career.

This year, I have made a donation to Ysbyty Arch Noa Plant Cymru / Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales here in Cardiff. Like most medical centres, the hospital has been under intense pressure this year, so I’m glad to help support Noah’s Ark in providing specialist treatment and care to seriously ill children in the city and beyond.

Zoals de meeste medische centra staat het ziekenhuis dit jaar onder grote druk, dus ik ben blij dat ik Noah's Ark kan helpen bij het bieden van specialistische behandeling en zorg aan ernstig zieke kinderen in de stad en daarbuiten.

In lieu of Christmas cards, I have made a donation to the Wales Air Ambulance.

While getting to hospital in an emergency isn’t much of a problem in a big city like Cardiff, the same isn’t true across Wales, which is very mountainous and sparsely populated in many areas. Getting medical assistance from a helicopter crew that can reach isolated areas rapidly can mean the difference between life and death.

Wales Air Ambulance carries out on average 2,500 missions a year. To achieve its goal of reaching anyone in Wales within 20 minutes of one of its four bases, the charity needs to raise £6.5 million every year to operate the service, with each mission on average costing £1500. And since it does not receive direct funding from the government and does not qualify for National Lottery funding, Capital Translations is pleased to support this life-saving charity.

Today I'm translating a piece of about the Dutch city of Heerlen, and had no idea about the rich history it had.

The city successfully bridged the gap from the coal-mining age to modern era by repurposing old mines for heating & cooling purposes.
