6 things I learned firstly as a separated dad and then a family law specialist with Family Law Assistance:
👉 There's no `winning': You're going to be put in countless situations where finding the least worst option is as good as it gets.
👉 Ignorance: You'll be told `there's no smoke without fire' and not seeing your kids is `just how it is' because you're a father. You may well be the `bad guy' no matter the situation.
👉 It's going to make a hole in your pocket: The disruption of separation is expensive. The legal bills even more. And at the same time, your income is probably taking a battering.
👉 Not feeling like a `real' parent: You'll see and hear your mates complaining about the hassles of being a parent and bite your tongue because their nightmare is your dream.
👉 Feeling useless: Your life has led up to the point when you became a dad. And now you feel like a redundant piece of machinery that belongs on the scrap heap.
👉 Feeling overwhelmed: It can feel like the entire family law system and society sees you as a `nice to have' type parent.
What have I missed? I think of more...!
You probably feel like you're alone, dads. And that the world wants you just to shut up and/or disappear.
Your kids need you. Don't give up.
BTW...to find out what REALLY works and what you can do to navigate the family law system, what your critics will do and say and just to make you realise you're an important parent take a look at our blogs here:
