⚖️ Legal 500 - Tier 1 ⚖️

Thanks to all our lovely referrers, clients and family law friends for such heart-warming comments in this year’s Legal 500. 🙏

Proud that our powerhouse of a Family team have been ranked Tier 1 in the South West and to see such a fantastic review. Super to have Daniel Eames listed as a Leading Partner and Pippa Allsop as a Leading Associate. 💪

I’ve also graduated from a ‘Rising Star’ to Next Generation Partner, which feels very surreal when it only seems five minutes ago that I qualified as a baby lawyer. 🙌

We are known for:
➡️ The go to family law firm in the South West for big money cases
➡️Knotty international cases
➡️ Fantastic client care
➡️ Strategic representation
➡️ Strong, determined solicitors who fight hard to secure the best outcome

Our tricky, complex cases are a real team effort, and the top quality advice and representation we are able to provide is thanks to the dedication of our superstar lawyers, and I’m pleased that their hard work is recognised in this year’s ranking. 🌟

💸 English pensions and divorcing abroad 💸

Thanks to our international links I’m finding we are being contacted more frequently by couples with a UK connection but living abroad, who have split and sorted out their finances abroad only to find either (a) they have forgotten about UK pensions or (b) have not realised that their foreign agreement can’t be implemented by UK pension providers. ⁉

I have had several cases recently where we have successfully encompassed ensuring UK pension provision is dealt with correctly at the same time as a foreign agreement, and several more where we’ve been contacted after the event, but managed to navigate what can be a complex area of English law and achieve results quickly by agreement and with the cooperation of the English courts (thanks mostly to HHJ Hess). 👏

I’m on a mission to raise awareness of this odd lacuna in the space between UK pension provision and international family law. Please do share this article with any international counterparts who may find this relevant to their clients and contacts. 💡

Channeling this today after a week that has demanded mental strength and resilience. Words that I often share with clients finding the challenges of separation, and the curveballs court proceedings can throw into the mix, difficult to deal with. Onwards into the weekend!

This week saw and I was inspired to see many inspirational stories from a variety of connections across 💡

I’m not sure this young lady would have believed it, had you told her that 15 years later she would be a partner at a top South West law firm, practicing family law. 👩🏻‍🎓

I attended a (good) state school, but I think it’s fair to say that most of those around me as I started my legal journey did not. There are no lawyers in my family. I think back to how alien a world law was and how underprepared I was for training contract assessments, and cringe. As a result, I felt that I had to work super-hard and that I had to go the extra mile to prove myself as I tried to keep up. 🏃🏻‍♀️

I was pleased to read SRA statistics confirming that the number of those attending state schools has increased - from 59% in 2015 to 64% in 2023. However, that is still not a reflection of society and there is still some way to go - a greater proportion of today’s partners attended an independent/fee-paying school compared to solicitors.📉

Mentoring, education and essential skills teaching play a key role in striving to level the playing field in law. Inclusive and supportive work environments are crucial to give everyone the opportunity to thrive in a legal career. 💪

Visible role models are vital to encourage others into the profession - I often say, if you can see it, you can be it. 🌟

We all have a duty to ensure that the door doesn’t close behind us (rather, that we keep it open with a door stop, or take the door off altogether).

You can’t change the room if you aren’t in the room - that’s why I’m pleased to play a greater role in graduate recruitment at Michelmores, supporting our recruitment team in sourcing the best talent and supporting our graduates to achieve their potential, no matter their background. 🙌

I’m proud to say that I’ve been featured in this year’s Spears Family Law Index amongst some of the top family lawyers in the country - the listing recognised those that provide complex advice in tricky cases for high net worth and ultra high net worth individuals.

How lovely is our new Bristol office?

So excited to welcome clients and friends to our lovely new space.

Visiting a solicitor’s office can often be an intimidating prospect for clients and it can feel uncomfortable opening up about personal issues in a sterile, corporate environment. Our super team have worked hard to make sure that our new office helps clients feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible and I think they’ve hit the nail on the head here!

Even better, we’re meeting our sustainability goals in this super new environment too.

Thanks to our office move dream team for making this our new reality!
