Property records are increasingly being digitised which is a great opportunity to improve access and sharing of information. However, data is still highly fragmented and unevenly distributed, with no standardised way of sharing electronically or ensuring continuity of data between property transactions. We believe residential logbooks can deliver this.
It seems that property passports, or logbooks for residential properties is starting to pick up some speed as a working group has been set up to look specifically at the issue.

Buying and Selling Homes during this stay-at-home period
The buying and selling process can continue during this period but you should be aware that the process is likely to take longer than normal. You are free to continue to accept offers on your property, however the selling process may take longer. Advice for people to stay at home and away from others means you should not invite visitors into your home, including prospective buyers or advisors. Once you have exchanged contracts, you have entered into a legal agreement to purchase that home. If the property you are purchasing is unoccupied you can continue with the transaction. If the property you are purchasing is currently occupied, we recommend that all parties should work towards a mutually convenient completion date taking into account any special measures that may be required due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions and of the risks presented by the virus.

Long awaited leasehold Reform to make owning leasehold property fairer is now on the horizon
Professor Nick Hopkins has pledged that the government will provide a “better deal for leaseholders”. Announced as part of the the Law Commission residential leasehold and commonhold project aims to improve consumer choice and provide greater fairness.
“We know that, for many, reform cannot come quickly enough. The Commission will publish details in September on a new regime in respect of leasehold houses and flats.
