Making a Will involves more than writing down your wishes.

For it to be properly executed, it must be signed in the presence of two independent adult witnesses, who also sign it.

Honey Legal also advises that a family member who may benefit from the Will should not act as a witness.

But informal conversations do not replace a valid Will.

When someone dies without one, inheritance is handled under the rules of intestacy.

Those rules follow a set legal order and may not reflect personal wishes, modern relationships or the family members someone intended to support.
