We are sad to announce the passing of David Searl who died on 18 March at the age of 82.
David Searl, a US citizen, and former journalist for American newspapers came to the Costa del Sol in the mid-70s and was until his death one of the Costa´s most important writers of articles and books focusing on legal topics. He was the lead writer on law for the acclaimed monthly magazine "Lookout" and continued on the same track in other English-language media.
His greatest achievement in this field was the publication of the book "You and the Law in Spain" with 24 editions of advisory information about relevant laws and regulations for foreign expats in Spain. The 2018 Edition was published in collaboration with Alex Radford from My Lawyer in Spain and prior to his death had been working on the 25th Edition which will be launched in 2022.
In addition to these works, David was a popular lecturer, a regular participant in radio programmes and expert at information meetings in collaboration with the foreign department of Mijas Town Hall and other local community groups.
David was cremated in a private ceremony and leaves his wife, Mary, two sons, Ben and Daniel, and three grandchildren.
