Appointing Guardians in your Will 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒
The role of a guardian is a very important one if you have children or have parental responsibility.

Tough to imagine someone else bringing up our children. Worse to die without making a Will or not appointing guardians in your Will as your children could be placed in care until the court appoints official guardians to look after them 😦

➡️It’s usual (but not essential) that the same persons are appointed guardians of all your minor children.
➡️Ideally each parent should appoint the same persons to act as guardian to avoid conflict.

It’s important to discuss this with proposed guardian before making the appointment.

💷Inheritance Tax (IHT) Thresholds 2025💷

Inheritance Tax is a concern for many, but understanding the thresholds can help with planning:

🔹 Nil-Rate Band (NRB): £325,000 – No IHT is due on estates below this amount.

🔹 Residence Nil-Rate Band (RNRB): Up to £175,000 – If passing your main home to direct descendants, this can increase your tax-free allowance to £500,000.

🔹 Married Couples & Civil Partners: Can combine allowances, meaning up to £1 million can be passed tax-free.

Above these thresholds, IHT is charged at 40%, but smart estate planning can reduce this.

➡️ Security – Protects against loss, damage, or tampering.
➡️Accessibility – Ensures your executors can easily find it.
➡️Validity – Prevents accidental invalidation (e.g., due to staples or markings).
➡️Peace of Mind – Reduces the risk of disputes or confusion after your passing.
➡️The only person who can access your Will while you are alive is you.

With your original Will documents safely stored, you can store copies at home for reference.
