Here's another prime classic example of a unit bought in China which comes with their own Iec cable. These come in a few different variants and shapes, some with no fuse also.
They are also cheekily stamped with bs1363!they would never achieve a British standard!

Please take note that the earth pin where it has plastic protector strip half way down the pin!

Earth pins dont need that "protection", like the live and neutral pins.

Infact it may be too far down, that the metal part of the pin doesn't make contact in the socket,.a d wouldn't trip the electric in a live wire fault, where the appliance can become live, cause electrocution or death.

All these are genuine pictures from a recent PAT test inspection carried out.

Loose cord grip on plug this time, which causes the wires to pull out of the locators in the plug, which in turn will make the plug be intermittent, cause arcing. Or potentially a fire from arcing and heat.

Also if the earth wire comes loose and doesn't make contact, the appliance will still work, of there is a live fault within the unit, it will not trip the electric and the whole unit will become live, which can result in electric shock or death.

Heres another example of a recent pay test failure. Although the extension lead worked because the love location point was pushed on top of the wire, this could lead to intermittent power, and arcing, which in turn would produce heat and potentially a fire!

Here's just some common things we come across when Pat testing. These would be fails.

Before and after

Cord grip not holding the wires secure as it should, this will end up pulling the wires from the sockets or junction boxes inside which could lead to light failure, or wires shorting inside, as an example.

Not only are we an entertainment company, we are also city and guilds qualified PAT testers.
