One of the most recurrent questions we receive at Holatax is whether it is compulsory for non-residents to file an annual tax return when they own a property in Spain.

Article 13.1.h) of the Non-Resident Income Tax Law establishes that non-residents who are individuals and who own urban real estate located in Spanish territory must pay this tax in Spain as long as the property is at the disposal of the owner and is not rented out.

Therefore, all non-residents who own property in Spain must file this annual tax return, except in cases where the property has been rented for the whole year or in the case of being the bare owner.

Spain is usually known by non-residents for its good weather and wonderful beaches. But did you know that Spain also has wonderful mountain and snowy places?

Sierra Nevada is a mountain range located between the provinces of Granada and Almería, whose highest peak is almost 3,500 metres above sea level. It was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1986 and has a ski resort.

The Spanish Pyrenees extend across six provinces in northern Spain for almost 500 km in width. They are home to more than 15 ski slopes. It is home to fairytale villages such as Benasque, Panticosa and Aínsa.
