One of the best things about living in Madrid? 📚🇪🇸🤓

One of my favorite discoveries after moving to Spain was realizing that almost every neighborhood has a public library. And if you’re in a bigger city, many of them have an incredible selection of English books too!

I just borrowed these three for FREE, and I’m officially set for the summer. ☀️📖

If you’re planning to study or move to Spain, here’s a money-saving tip you’ll thank yourself for later:

📍 Search “biblioteca pública” on Google Maps.
🪪 Sign up for a library card using your passport, TIE, or empadronamiento (requirements may vary by library).
📚 Borrow books, magazines, movies, and other resources—for FREE.
🫶 Return everything on time so you can keep borrowing and enjoy your library membership without interruptions.

These are the little things no one tells you before moving abroad—the everyday perks that make life in Spain feel richer, more sustainable, and surprisingly affordable. 💛🇪🇸

A few years ago, I became a full-fledged citizen of the Kingdom of Spain. 🇪🇸

It’s one of the biggest milestones of my life, yet! And it’s something I’ll always be grateful for.

But it has never changed who I am.

I’ll always be Filipino. 🇵🇭

I’ll always crave Filipino food, smile whenever I hear someone speaking Filipino, and confidently say that Filipino mangoes are the best in the world. (I’ll happily defend that opinion 🥭😆)

And at the same time, a part of my heart belongs to Spain too.

This is the country that welcomed me when I arrived with two suitcases, a few hundred euros in my pocket and a thousand dreams.

It’s where I learned to build a beautiful life from scratch - where I discovered a new language and culture. Where I built my career, found lifelong friends, and slowly realized that this place had become home, too.

People sometimes think that getting another citizenship means leaving your old one behind.

For me, it never felt like that.

I didn’t lose one home.

I gained another.

Looking back, it’s amazing how one decision—to study abroad—ended up changing the course of my life.

Not overnight.

Not without challenges.

But in ways I’ll be grateful for forever.

Today, I carry two passports.

But more importantly, I carry two places I’ll always call home 🇵🇭🏡 🇪🇸

In my Emily in Paris era 👩🏻‍💻🧀✨

There was a time when Europe felt impossibly far away.

Not just because of the distance… but because of the visa.

As a Filipina with a Philippine passport, Europe felt like something meant for people with stronger passports (or bigger budgets).

Now, Europe is home. 🏡

It’s where I earned my Master’s degree, built my career, found opportunities I never imagined, and created a life I’m genuinely grateful for.

Over the past year, work has taken me all across Europe.

And every time I board another flight or train, I can’t help but think about the younger version of me who simply hoped to experience Europe one day.

And it got me thinking…

How many more Filipinas are out there wondering if Europe is ever going to happen for them?

If that’s you, maybe this is your sign. 💛🇪🇸

There isn’t a magic formula for getting a Spain Student Visa approved. Every application is assessed individually by the visa officers.

But after seeing 4 of my readers receive their approvals in the past 30 days, I couldn’t help but notice the same patterns appearing again and again and again.

If you’re planning to study in Spain, I hope these insights help you prepare a stronger application! 🇪🇸

💛 Save this post for your future application, and send it to someone who dreams of studying in Spain.

I truly believe my journey to Spain began long before I ever boarded the plane.

In 2010, I started studying at Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Intramuros—the "Spain of Manila" - for my Bachelor´s degree.

I still remember the first time my dad took me there for the entrance exams.

The moment we walked through the gates, I felt completely at home.

I instantly fell in love with Intramuros—the cobblestone streets, the centuries-old walls, the horse-drawn calesas, the Spanish charm that made me think of Maria Clara and Ibarra.

Back then, I thought it was nostalgia for a past life.

I had no idea it was actually my future calling me 👀

Nine years later, life came full circle.

I moved to Spain to study my master's degree - and the rest is history.

Looking back, it feels like every step was gently leading me here.

Sometimes the places that feel like home aren't reminders of where we've been—they're glimpses of where we're meant to end up.

Life has a beautiful way of connecting the dots, but only when we look back.

Did you ever have a place that instantly felt like home, long before you had a reason to be there?

This day, three years ago, I received the best news an immigrant could ever receive - my application for Spanish citizenship was approved. 🎉🍾

For someone who arrived to this brand-new country just four years prior with no one and nothing (and managed to build a beautiful life from scratch!) I know it wasn’t just my hustle. It was God’s grace.

In early 2024, a few months after receiving my Spanish passport, I wanted to give back to my community so I created Wanderfil - a website designed to help my fellow Filipinos study and build life in Spain. In there, I shared practical guidance on visa application, housing, paid internships, community and even featured interviews with other Filipinos who had successfully made Spain their home!

The response has been nothing short of incredible and over the past year, so many students and fellow dreamers have reached out to me.

And that is why, last year, I decided to transform my web posts into a concise, easy-to-follow e-book—full of even more actionable tips, lessons, and insights to make the Spanish Student Visa journey clearer, smoother, less stressful, and to save time while avoiding unnecessary expenses to those who need it!

11 months later… and this little dream has grown into a community of 5,000+ followers, 200+ eBook readers, and most importantly, several aspiring dreamers who have successfully received their Spain Student Visa—DIY style. 🇪🇸💛

So if you’re a Filipino planning to pursue Master’s in Spain—or know someone who is—this resource is for you. I hope it helps make the journey easier and the dream closer. 💕

I lived in 6 different cities in 3 different countries across 2 continents because I wasn't afraid to start from scratch.

That's the whole secret.

There's no "made for living abroad" gene. There's just a long stretch where everything feels unfamiliar, and most people give up right there.

When I first moved to Spain, I spoke 0 Spanish.

I got lost - literally and figuratively.

I had no idea how anything worked in this brand new country.

I said embarrassing things more times than I can count.

(I still do sometimes 🙊)

But I've realized something.

The skill that helps you build a life abroad isn't speaking the language perfectly.

It also isn't having everything figured out.

It IS willing to be a beginner.

To ask for help.

To make mistakes.

To keep going anyway.

Your pride will protect you from looking silly.

But it will also keep you from growing.

Every Filipino I know who has built a beautiful life abroad started exactly the same way—confused, overwhelmed, and unsure.

The difference is they didn't quit.

Living abroad gets easier.

Speaking Spanish gets easier.

Life gets easier.

But only after you're willing to start from scratch first! ❤️🇵🇭🇪🇸

Are you ready? 👀
