When we talk about a deed to buy or sell a property, it should be the responsibility of the seller to obtain the necessary documents from the government institutions and to pay the “plusvalía” tax. The buyer has the responsibility for the fees and costs incurred in drawing up the deed such as lawyer fees, “alcabala” tax, and deed inscription or registration.

When I have my first consultation online or in my office with a client that wants to apply for a residency visa, my first question is about their plans in Ecuador.

Some clients want to apply for residence to buy a property, conduct business in Ecuador, or start a company. You should know that you don't need to be a resident for all those purposes.

Apart from the information above, you should also know that visitors from almost all countries are allowed 90 days to stay in Ecuador per year, and you can ask for an additional 90 days. So, you have six months per year to start your business, enjoy your new home and make the most of your time in Ecuador.
