Northeastern Leaders Raise Alarm Over the Rising Border Violence in the country

Leaders from the Northeastern region of Kenya have raised concern over escalating insecurity along the Kitui, Garissa, and Tana River border areas, where recent attacks have caused deaths, injuries, and destruction of property.

The Northeastern Parliamentary Group described the situation along the Mwingi–Garissa corridor as alarming, condemning the violence and expressing condolences to affected families. They warned that continued clashes threaten long-standing peaceful coexistence.

The lawmakers urged residents to avoid retaliation and embrace dialogue, while calling on security agencies to act swiftly, impartially, and ensure justice.

Senegal Reforms Electoral Law, Opening Door for Sonko

Senegal has revised its electoral code, passing key amendments through the National Assembly on April 28, 2026.

The changes are seen as paving the way for Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to contest future presidential polls.

Lawmakers modified Articles 29 and 30, replacing lifetime bans for certain convictions with a five-year ineligibility period after serving sentences.
The reform removes barriers that excluded Sonko from the 2024 race, making him eligible for 2029. Critics, including the FDR coalition, argue the law is tailored and may face constitutional challenges.

Authorities in Uganda have arrested at least 231 foreign nationals in an ongoing operation targeting illegal migration and suspected trafficking networks.

Security raids in northern areas and Kampala uncovered groups held in restricted compounds, many lacking identification and unable to move freely.

Officials suspect some victims were deceived with fake job offers before their documents were seized. Investigators are pursuing those behind the scheme, including individuals controlling passports. Among those detained are suspected traffickers, visa violators, and possible victims. The case underscores rising concerns about cross-border crime and digital fraud networks.
