📚
Every lawyer remembers the weight of their first legal text, the late nights reading cases, and the countless hours of research in libraries and online databases. Books became more than just pages, but tools to sharpen arguments, inspire confidence and armour fit for Chambers and Court rooms.

At Nkusuwila Nachalwe Advocates, we hold firm to this truth: the law is alive, dynamic and ever evolving to regulate and cater for the fast changing society. Nascent areas of law such as environmental, energy, climate change, data protection and artificial intelligence and corporate governance required the expansion of legal imagination because at development, traditional laws did not have in mind the collective action problems that these modern laws address.

To remain astute and relevant, one needs to keep abreast by constantly learning. For young lawyers starting out, books are not just companions but lifelines; for seasoned Practitioners, they remain the wellspring of wisdom that keeps us sharp and effective.

A timeless reminder from Thomas Jefferson- "A lawyer without books would be like a workman without tools" is a call to all in the profession to never stop reading, never stop learning. We all know that behind every sound legal opinion is a discipline of study.

Championing Zambia’s Energy Future: A Just Energy Transition ⚡
We are proud to share that our Managing Partner, Nkusuwila Nachalwe-Mbao, was among a select group of thought leaders at the Faith Leader Environmental Advocacy Training (FLEAT) Zambia III, held from 29–31 July 2025 at Kasisi Training Centre, Lusaka, and hosted by SAFCEI.

During the training, Mrs Nkusuwila Nachalwe-Mbao delivered a compelling presentation on the Just Energy Transition (JET), offering a strategic overview of Zambia’s energy landscape. Her message was clear: climate change is not just an environmental issue but it’s a human health, food security, and economic stability challenge.

🔑 Highlights from her presentation:

- Urgent Diversification: Moving beyond hydropower to a resilient, balanced energy mix.
- Legal Empowerment: Leveraging frameworks like the Electricity (Net Metering) Regulations and Open Access Regulations to support IPPs and prosumers.
- Core JET Principles:
- Equity & Fairness
- Inclusion & Participation
- Addressing Historical Injustices
- Creating Quality Jobs
- Global Equity

🌿 Exploring Renewable Energy Options for Zambia:
- ☀ Solar Photovoltaic: Panels, inverters, and battery storage
- 💨 Wind Energy: Harnessing wind through turbines
- 🌾 Biomass: Utilizing agricultural by-products
- 🌋 Geothermal: Tapping into Earth’s natural heat

The three-day programme convened faith leaders, environmental advocates, and technical experts to explore:
🌱 Climate change & food systems
🥗 Indigenous foods & nutrition
⚡ Energy security through community led solutions.
📢 Advocacy strategies for community impact

💡 Key Takeaway: A Just Energy Transition is not just about switching to renewables, it’s about ensuring no community is left behind, and that energy reform is rooted in social and economic justice.

Let’s continue driving conversations that shape a sustainable, equitable future for Zambia and beyond.
