We are very excited to announce that Cascadia Legal has not one, but TWO students that have joined our team for the summer as part of our inaugural Indigenous summer law student program!
Courtney Tizya, an incoming 3L student at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law, grew up in Richmond, BC and is Vuntut Gwitchin from Old Crow, Yukon as well as a citizen of Carcross/Tagish First Nation in southern Yukon. Her interest in law and advocacy started when she was a child and she hopes to work in support of Indigenous communities upon graduation from school. Outside the office (when she is not hitting the books) she enjoys hitting the slopes, finding new restaurants to explore with her friends, checking out all the local makers' and farmers’ markets, and practicing her yoga poses.

Peyton Anderson, an incoming 2L student at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, is Nuxalk from Bella Coola, BC and grew up in Kamloops. She is interested in law because it is a versatile way to build capacity for Nations and, with her background in political science and government, it was a good fit to help bridge gaps in government-to-government relations. In her spare time she loves pouring through a good fantasy book, cheering on the Blue Jays and her favourite F1 drivers, and training at the gym or the volleyball court.

Cascadia believes it is important to support the next generation of legal advocates for Indigenous peoples and provide students with exposure to a variety of practice areas as well as experience working in our firm and for the communities we serve. We are thrilled to have Courtney and Peyton with us for the summer and they are already making an impact!
