UBC Criminal Law Club

UBC Faculty of Law's first ever Criminal Law Club. The UBC Criminal Law Club fosters and champions interest in and passion for the practice of Criminal Law.

We aim to bridge the gap between law students interested in criminal law and criminal law practitioners, facilitate educational and informational opportunities whereby members can expand their knowledge and understanding of the practice of criminal law, and host engaging social events that promote networking, collegiality, and camaraderie between club members and the local criminal law community.

IN HER DEFENCE 2026 👩‍⚖️⚖️

Thank you to those who joined us for the THIRD annual In HER Defence event last night.

It was an evening which fostered connection between women in criminal law, inspired mentorship, and showed students interested in criminal law that there are supportive women in the criminal bar ready to welcome us to the field!

A special thank you to our speakers who generously and candidly shared their experiences as a woman working in criminal law.

Registration is now open for the third annual IN HER DEFENCE: International Women’s Day Criminal Law Mixer event!

In HER Defence unites women, non-binary folks and allies in Vancouver’s criminal law community. Our mission is to celebrate accomplishments in criminal law, foster networking opportunities, and inspire mentorship.

This initiative addresses the underrepresentation of women in criminal defence, where retention rates remain a pressing concern. According to the Criminal Lawyers’ Association (CLA), a significant number of women exit the field within five years, and few remain beyond the ten-year mark.

While we would love to have all interested participants in attendance, the capacity of this event is limited. Please note that confirmation emails will be sent out shortly, confirming your spot. Once you receive a confirmation email, you will be confirmed as an attendee.

If you can no longer attend after you receive a confirmation email, please let us know as soon as possible.
