"A ban on replacement workers is necessary and long overdue."

Open letter concerning Bill C-58 signed by over 70 labour experts.

A ban on replacement workers is necessary and long overdue. We urge Members of Parliament to resist efforts to weaken the bill and to instead work cooperatively to strengthen the legislation and ensure its swift adoption.

Yesterday, we joined the Ontario Crown Attorneys' Association, OPSEU, and the Urban Alliance on Race Relations to sound the alarm on the dangers of closing the Scarborough, North York and Etobicoke Courthouses. Thanks to the CBC for such a great summary of our concerns:

3 years ago we signed our first Collective Agreement! It still needed to be ratified but we achieved it in December of that year. We'll be back in bargaining next year but we'll have that first agreement to build on instead of starting from scratch. We've come a long way!!! Great work by Dana Fisher, Renee Jasmine, Alika Hendricks Jean-Jacques, Kendall Yaamagishi, Katie Edmunds, Lynn McDougall (staff) and Blaine Donais (staff).

Some of the LAO Interim Local Committee right after signing the tentative collective agreement! Check your inboxes for more details (including the entire tentative collective agreement) soon. We'll be following up with more information about how you can vote to ratify the collective agreement.
