We are pleased to welcome Kuljan Hundal as the new Managing Lawyer at the South Asian Legal Clinic of British Columbia.

As a South Asian lawyer, this role holds deep personal meaning for Kuljan. To now serve a community that has shaped so much of her own identity and upbringing is both humbling and incredibly important to her. Kuljan understands firsthand the cultural, linguistic, financial, and systemic barriers many individuals and families in our communities face when trying to navigate the legal system, and she is proud to be part of an organization dedicated to making legal support more accessible and community-centred.

We are excited for the impact Kuljan will make as she helps advance our ongoing commitment to access to justice.

The South Asian Legal Clinic of British Columbia was recently featured in a PressProgress article discussing the Supreme Court of Canada’s landmark decision recognizing coercive control as a form of intimate partner violence.

The article includes insights from SALCBC Board Member Kuljit Sandhu, Managing Lawyer Kuljan Hundal, and SALCBC co-founder and former Managing Lawyer Meena Dhillon, who spoke about the unique barriers that survivors from South Asian and other racialized communities often face when seeking support and justice.

We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation and to help raise awareness about the impact of coercive control, as well as the need for accessible, culturally responsive legal services.

Thanks to Ramneek Dosanjh for helping bring attention to this important issue and for supporting media engagement on this significant legal development.
