IRCC updated processing times for the week of May 12, 2026. Here's what actually changed.
Improved this week:
✅ Study permits applied from inside Canada - down from 8 weeks to 6 weeks
✅ Work permits for applicants from Nigeria - processing times shortened
✅ Work permits for applicants from the USA - also improved
✅ India continues to hold one of the fastest study permit timelines among major applicant countries
Slower this week:
⚠️ Work permits for the Philippines - processing time increased
⚠️ Study permits from Pakistan - wait times went up
A few things worth saying honestly:
These numbers are service standards - IRCC's targets for processing most applications within a certain timeframe. They are not guaranteed. Your individual timeline depends on how complete your file is, which visa office handles it, and IRCC's current workload.
The most common avoidable delay we see? Missing or inconsistent documents. An application with one issue can sit untouched for weeks before an officer identifies the problem - and then it gets sent back.
That costs you weeks, sometimes months.
We go through every file before it goes to IRCC. Not because we're cautious. Because it works.
If your application has been sitting longer than the published standard and you haven't heard anything, that's worth looking into.
There are steps you can take.
