The Student Direct Stream (SDS) is a special program implemented by the Canadian government to expedite the study permit application process for international students from select countries. The SDS program aims to provide faster processing times for eligible students who meet specific requirements.
To be eligible for the Student Direct Stream program in Canada, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Citizenship: You must be a citizen of one of the following countries: China, India, Morocco, Pakistan, the Philippines, Senegal, or Vietnam.
2. Language Proficiency: You need to provide proof of language proficiency in English or French. Generally, this means you must have a minimum score of 6.0 in each language skill (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or a minimum score of 7.0 for French.
3. Financial Proof: You must demonstrate that you have enough funds to cover your tuition fees, living expenses, and return transportation for the first year of your studies in Canada. The specific financial requirements may vary depending on the educational institution and the province or territory in which you will study.
4. Tuition Payment: You must pay the tuition fees for the first year of your study program in Canada before applying.
5. Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC): You need to purchase a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution to show that you have access to $10,000 CAD to cover living expenses.
6. Medical Examination: In some cases, a medical examination may be required to ensure you meet the health requirements to study in Canada.
