"সুপ্রিম কোর্টের আপিল বিভাগে তিনজনকে বিচারপতি হিসেবে নিয়োগ দিয়েছেন রাষ্ট্রপতি মো. আবদুল হামিদ। তারা হলেন, বিচারপতি মো. আশফাকুল ইসলাম, বিচারপতি জাহাঙ্গীর হোসেন সেলিম ও বিচারপতি আবু জাফর সিদ্দিকী।

বৃহস্পতিবার (৮ ডিসেম্বর) রাষ্ট্রপতির নির্দেশক্রমে তাদের নিয়োগ দিয়ে আইনমন্ত্রণালয় থেকে এ বিষয়ে প্রজ্ঞাপন জারি করা হয়েছে।

প্রজ্ঞাপনে বলা হয়, গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের সংবিধানের ৯৫ (১) অনুচ্ছেদ অনুযায়ী রাষ্ট্রপতি হাইকোর্ট বিভাগের কর্মরত তিনজন বিচারককে তাদের শপথ গ্রহণের তারিখ থেকে আপিল বিভাগে বিচারক নিয়োগ করেছেন। বিকেল চারটায় সদ্য নিয়োগ পাওয়া বিচারপতিদের শপথবাক্য পাঠ করাবেন প্রধান বিচারপতি হাসান ফয়েজ সিদ্দিকী।

প্রধান বিচারপতিসহ আপিল বিভাগে বর্তমানে ৬ জন বিচারপতি রয়েছেন। নতুন তিনজন বিচারপতি নিয়োগের মাধ্যমে আপিল বিভাগে বিচারপতির সংখ্যা দাঁড়ালো ৯ জনে।"
