By now everyone has heard about the very public fallout between arguably the biggest radio stars in the country, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie "O" Henderson, and the radio network that until very recently broadcast them.

Behind the celebrity drama are serious employment law issues that are directly relevant to workers and employers across Australia, across all industries.

This past Saturday was the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The day is always a reminder that real change requires action, accountability, and systems that genuinely protect people.
Racial discrimination shows up in workplaces, compensation claims, and legal processes every day, often in ways that go unchallenged. At Leonard Blake Legal, we believe access to justice belongs to everyone, regardless of race, background, or where you come from.
To mark the day, we made a donation to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation - an organisation doing great work to ensure First Nations children and communities have access to books and literacy support in language. Both Olivia and Christie are big readers, and we know firsthand how transformative access to books and language can be. Literacy is the foundation of so much - confidence, opportunity, and ultimately, the ability to advocate for yourself and others. It felt like the right way to put our values into action.

Yesterday we celebrated International Women's Day 2026 - and this year's theme, Give to Gain, feels personal.
Christie and Olivia started Leonard Blake Legal because they’d spent years on the insurer side, and they wanted to give that knowledge to the people who needed it most. Injured workers. Employees who'd been treated unfairly. People navigating the system at their lowest point.
That's the giving. The gain, for our clients, and for us, is what happens when someone who felt powerless walks away with a fair outcome and their dignity intact.
IWD is also about celebrating and acknowledging the women in our profession who paved the way, the women in our clients' lives who support them through incredibly difficult times, and every woman who has used whatever she has to lift someone else up.
That's Give to Gain in action!

The NSW workers compensation scheme has undergone its most significant reform in over a decade.

The recent amendments tighten psychological injury claims, expand employer defences, raise impairment thresholds, and introduce a new preliminary role for the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW.

Our Co-Directors, Christie Blake and Olivia Leonard, have written a detailed breakdown of the changes and what it will mean in practice.

A few words from one of our Directors, Christie - "At the end of last year, I was honoured to be listed as Recommended in the 2025 Doyles Guide Leading Workers Compensation Lawyer (Defendant) in New South Wales.

At the time, it landed in a very strange moment. I had already resigned from my previous role, I was getting ready to step into the unknown of starting a new firm, and if I’m being honest, I didn’t think the recognition really meant much for what I was about to build, so I didn’t really celebrate it as an achievement.

But the more distance I’ve had from that period, the more I’ve realised that experience, the years I spent working on the defendant/insurer side, that is actually one of my biggest strengths for the clients I represent today. It means I inherently understand how decisions are actually made behind the scenes, where claims succeed (and where they fall down), how evidence is assessed by insurers in real, practical terms, and the pressures and processes on the other side of the table.

Starting a new firm is humbling. You question yourself. You wonder whether you’re good enough, whether you’re ready, whether you’re doing the right thing. But stopping to consider the work that has led up to this and the recognition I have already achieved, it’s a reminder that experience does matter and that the knowledge gained on every side of the workers compensation system can be used to genuinely help people."
