5 Steps to Securing a Professional Hospitality Job in Australia 🇦🇺🍽️
Are you already in Australia on a temporary visa and struggling to land the right hospitality role? Here’s what actually works:

1.Get Clear on Your Goal
Are you aiming for Supervisor, Duty Manager, Head Chef, or Venue Manager?
Clarity = stronger applications.

2. Understand Local Expectations
Australian employers value leadership, compliance knowledge (RSA, Food Safety), and customer experience. Adapt to the local standard.

3. Localise Your CV
Focus on achievements, not just tasks. Show results: team size managed, revenue growth, service ratings.

Don’t apply everywhere. Target the right venues and tailor each application.

Thinking of working in hospitality in Australia?
It’s not harder than elsewhere, it’s different.
Understanding trial culture, expectations and mindset is essential to succeed.

What international candidates need to know?
Trials are part of the process
✔ Paid trials
✔ Real service conditions
✔ Attitude is tested as much as skills

Hospitality here is fast & hands-on. You’re expected to be proactive, flexible and efficient, even on day one.

Your mindset matters more than your background
European experience is valued, but adaptability is key.

Communication is everything. Clear English, teamwork and customer focus make a huge difference.

Hospitality in Australia rewards those who are committed, humble and motivated.
That’s where the right opportunity makes all the difference.

At Talent on The Move, we help international talents navigate the Australian hospitality market the right way.

How to know if a company can sponsor you in Australia — before you apply

Company sponsorship decisions are rarely emotional or spontaneous.
Employers usually ask themselves one simple question first:
“Does this make business sense for us?”

Here are 3 realistic things employers consider before sponsoring someone in Australia:

1️⃣ Your current visa status and work rights
Employers want clarity and security.
They look at how long you can work legally, under what conditions, and whether sponsorship would actually solve a future problem for them — not create one.

2️⃣ Your immediate value to the business
In Australia, companies usually sponsor people who can contribute now, not “after training.”
Local experience, reliability, and role-specific skills matter more than potential alone.

3️⃣ The cost, time, and commitment involved
Sponsorship is an investment.
Employers assess whether the role is long-term, whether the business can sustain the costs, and whether you’re likely to stay with them once sponsored.

This is why many applications fail before they even start — not because the candidate isn’t good, but because the match isn’t realistic.

At Talent on the Move, we focus on strategic matching — connecting candidates already in Australia with workplaces where sponsorship actually makes sense.
We also collaborate with professional migration agents, so visa considerations are addressed clearly and responsibly.

Australia’s hospitality industry is booming — are you ready to be part of it?

According to Jobs and Skills Australia (August 2025), the Accommodation and Food Services industry remains one of the country’s largest and fastest-evolving employers.

📊 Employment trends

Total employed: 966,000 people (6.6% of the national workforce)
Growth in the past year: +18,700 jobs (+2%)
Long-term trend: consistent growth across the last 20 years
Female participation: 52%
Median weekly earnings: $1,300

🏨 Main sectors within the industry:
Cafes, Restaurants & Takeaway Food Services: 688,400 workers
Pubs, Taverns & Bars: around 90,000
Accommodation providers: roughly 120,000
Clubs (hospitality): smaller but stable share

Over two decades, employment in this industry has shown a clear upward trajectory — with only temporary declines during COVID-19. The trend data demonstrates steady recovery and continuing demand for workers across all regions.

Australia’s hospitality sector plays a key role in tourism, regional economies, and international workforce mobility. With its young demographic and high rate of flexible work, it continues to attract both local and global talent.

When this question comes up, here’s a smarter way to answer:

1. Show that you’ve done the homework
“After researching comparable roles in this industry and location, and factoring in my experience and skills, I’m seeing market ranges between $X and $Y.”

2. Position your value with confidence
“Based on my background in [relevant experience] and results I’ve delivered in [specific area], I believe I fit toward the upper end of that range.”

3. Stay flexible without underselling yourself
“I’m genuinely interested in this opportunity and open to discussing a full compensation package that works well for both sides.”

4. Shift the conversation back
“Would you be able to share the salary range allocated for this role? That would help confirm we’re aligned.”

Keep in mind:
Whoever names a number first often gives up leverage.
Aim to understand their range first — while being ready with yours.

Hiring managers respect candidates who negotiate clearly and professionally.
It shows self-awareness, preparation, and long-term thinking.
