📢 Important Deadline Alert for Holiday Parenting Arrangements! 📢

With the Christmas school holidays approaching, separated parents seeking interim parenting orders for holiday arrangements must act quickly! In the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, the deadline to file is Friday, November 8, 2024, by 4 PM. ⏰

Filing after this date may mean a hearing isn’t scheduled until after Christmas, even in urgent cases. If you and the other parent can agree, a parenting plan is a great alternative to court orders—it’s a written agreement you can create together or with legal guidance.

A crucial article from 9NineNews Australia highlighting a disturbing issue: perpetrators are exploiting tax system loopholes to burden their victims with massive, unjust debts.

Domestic violence perpetrators are manipulating tax laws to impose debts on their victims, often without their knowledge. This exploitation can leave victims with debts averaging $90,000, leading to severe financial instability, insecure housing, and even bankruptcy.

Researchers from UNSW's Sydney Business School and the Gendered Violence Research Network have put forward recommendations to the federal government to close these loopholes. They urge the adoption of tax provisions similar to those in the United States, which provide relief to victims of intimate partner financial abuse.

Five reasons I love my job and being an LPD

1. Even though I am busy with other areas of the business so cannot help as many client as I used to, I get to help my own as well as the firm as a whole’s clients through what is often the worst period of their lives and watch them adapt and change and grow confident in themselves as a person and parent.
2. I get to watch our employees grow in confidence as well as their skills and knowledge as many start as PLT students and have worked their way up to Paralegal and then Solicitor. I always feel extremely proud of our staff when they achieve the best outcomes for our clients.
3. As LPD I am able to consider and offer pro bono assistance to new and existing clients who may not be able to afford us because it is important that they have legal representation to get the best outcome for their family.
4. I am able to make important decisions for our clients, team and the business to effect big changes as a result of those decisions.
5. I am encouraged and supported to undertake studies to support my interests such as becoming an Independent Childrens Lawyer hopefully in the near future.
6. Number six because I’m a lawyer and not an Accountant!

With the upcoming temporary lockdown from 6pm today (08/01/2021) to 6pm Monday (11/01/2021), where changeovers are to occur in the Brisbane / QLD area it is important to remember that unless prevented by restrictions on movement and the like because of for example quarantine rules, the Courts expect changeovers for children and time spent arrangements to occur per Orders / agreed as normal with precautions in place
