In 2025-26, the SC 407 ( Training Visa) refusal rate hit 45%.
It was 12% a few years ago.
From 11 March 2026, the rules changed.
You cannot lodge sponsorship, nomination and visa together anymore.
Each Application must be approved before the next.
End to end, you are looking at 9 to 12 months.
So i see people are choosing this as a "quick fix"
it's certainly not quick.
And it is not a fix.
Let me explain when the 407 actually works.
There are three real scenarios.
1. Registration Training
A pharmacist, a nurse, a teacher, a doctor.
The regulator says you need supervised hours before you can register.
You have a letter from the regulator.
The duration matches what they ask for.
Not a day longer.
2. Skills Enhancement
You already have one full year of experience in your occupation.
The occupation is on the LIN 19/050 list.
There is a real skill gap.
There is a real training plan with monthly objectives.
There is an assessment at the end.
This is where chefs, mechanics, hospitality managers, IT professionals fit.
3. Overseas course requirement or Government-Supported training
Practical placement is part of a foreign qualification.
Or a home government is backing the program.
Narrow, but clean when it fits.
That is it.
Three scenarios.
Everything else gets refused.
If your 485 is expiring — that is not training.
If your training plan is two generic pages — that is not training.
If you already have years of senior experience and you are pretending to be a trainee — that is not training.
Good times forgive bad migration planning.
Tough times expose it.
The next few years will not reward the fastest applicants.
They will reward the prepared ones.
If you are an employer considering whether the 407 fits your training need — let's assess it properly.
If you are an applicant being told the 407 is your way to stay — let's assess it before you spend a dollar.
