Recently, a client contacted us because Barclays had asked for copies of their identification certified by a lawyer rather than a JP.

It prompted me to look at how Australia’s expanded AML/CTF regulations that commenced on 1July 2026 may affect the identification documents people are being asked to provide.

The rules do not always require a lawyer. However, some banks, accountants, financial providers and overseas institutions may specifically request lawyer-certified copies.

This week, Witness2You completed its 500th job!

Less than six months ago, I started this business because I could see a gap for a simple, reliable and convenient document witnessing and certifying service.

Since then, I've helped people in Australia and overseas with a range of important documents.

Many appointments have been urgent. Many have involved people who could not easily meet with a legal practice, local JP or an Australian consulate.
